Canadian High School GEAR UP Students Tour East Central University

Fifty-One Canadian High School junior and senior GEAR UP students recently toured East Central University (ECU) in Ada, Oklahoma. Students began their day in the Estep Room inside the Bill S. Eastern Oklahoma State College’s GEAR UP program hosted its annual partnership meeting for area school superintendents, principals, counselors, and lead teachers. More than 46 school representatives met to learn about the current services EOSC GEAR UP is providing to area schools. Thirty Indianola GEAR UP students recently toured The University of Tulsa (TU) in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Founded in 1894, TU is a private, doctoral degree-granting, accredited institution. Ninety-six junior and senior students boarded two buses (one leaving from Poteau and one from McAlester) to travel to Texas for an exciting adventure provided by EOSC (Eastern Oklahoma State College) GEAR UP. Sixty-two juniors and thirty-eight seniors from McAlester High School traveled to Oklahoma City to tour Oklahoma Christian University. When students arrived, they were greeted by Megann Olsson, the Admissions Coordinator along with student tour guides. Eight GEAR UP teachers from partner schools recently attended a three-day ACT Prep workshop presented by Princeton Review. The workshop helped boost knowledge of test prep and lesson plans to use throughout the school year. Local GEAR UP teachers participate in Texas Instrument Training

Fifty-two Math and science teachers from GEAR UP partner schools recently participated in a two-day Texas Instruments training at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton. Training sessions included topics such as how to integrate the TI-Nspire Navigator Systems effectively into their classroom instruction, ways to assist students in preparing for the ACT, using python coding language and more.
