Clayton ninth grade Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP students recently toured EOSC (Eastern Oklahoma State College) in Wilburton. EOSC Recruiter Karen Darby welcomed the student at the E. E. Area Middle and High School Math and Science Teachers Receive Texas Instruments Technology and Training

Forty-five area middle and high school math and science teachers recently participated in a three-day TI (Texas Instruments) training at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton. The workshop was designed to help teachers integrate the TI-Nspire Navigator Systems effectively into classroom instruction, which helps students explore, understand and connect the principles of science, math, coding engineering design, and electronics. Each teacher received more than $7,000 in TI equipment. The trainings were conducted by Texas Instruments Specialists Mike Smith and Sandra Hocutt. Krebs eighth grade students tour Eastern Oklahoma State College

Twenty-five Krebs eighth grade GEAR UP students and two Krebs Public School staff members recently toured Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton. Recruiter Karen Darby met students at the E. E. Tourtellotte Student Center when they arrived on campus and began the tour. Gunning Hall provided students a fun and educational introduction to careers in the medical field. The nursing program offered at EOSC has been ranked number one in the state. Students viewed equipment used in the program including hospital beds, medical mannequins, models, skeletons, and others. Cameron 7th and 8th grade GEAR UP students recently traveled to Wilburton to tour Eastern Oklahoma State College. Eastern Oklahoma State College is a public community college offering associate degree and certification programs. Students visited the nursing department, radio station, science department, the library/administration building, and student center. Eastern’s GEAR UP Project Director Linda Morgan co–presented two workshops at the 2019 NCCEP/GEAR UP Capacity Building Workshop (CBW) recently held in San Antonio, Texas. Morgan joined Marcie Samples Associate Director for College Access & Support, Washington Student Achievement Council and Lois Bramwell, Director of GEAR UP 4 LA. Each presenter brought a specific area of expertise for the group: Samples works with a state GEAR UP grant; Bramwell directs an urban partnership grant; and Morgan directs a rural partnership grant. Area educators attend ICAP workshop at the McAlester campus of Eastern Oklahoma State College

Over 30 area superintendents, principals, counselors, teachers, and GEAR UP team members recently attended an ICAP (Individual Career Academic Plan) workshop at the McAlester campus of Eastern Oklahoma State College. The workshop was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Regina Carr, Atoka High School’s ICAP Coordinator/BMITE teacher outlined the plan Atoka is implementing and provided “lessons learned.” Atoka was selected as one of the ICAP Pilot Study Districts.
