In celebration of National GEAR UP Week, over 2,000 7th and 8th grade students from Southeast Oklahoma engaged in a “YOGOWYPI” moment with Bill Cordes at Wilburton High School gymnasium and at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center in Poteau. Students heard a great message on succeeding in school and getting the most out of life. After all, “You Only Get Out What You Put In!”
The event were sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College’s GEAR UP. Eastern’s GEAR UP is serving students in 39 partner schools in nine southeastern Oklahoma counties. Eastern was awarded the seven-year, $17 million grant in 2017.
Schools attending at the Wilburton High School Gymnasium were Canadian, Coalgate, Eufaula, Hartshorne, Indianola, Krebs, McAlester, Moyers, Pittsburg, Quinton, Rattan, Savanna, Stringtown, Tannehill and Wilburton.
Schools attending at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center in Poteau were Bokoshe, Buffalo Valley, Cameron, Clayton, Fanshawe, Howe, Keota, McCurtain, Panama, Panola, Porum, Poteau, Shady Point, Spiro, Whitesboro and Wister.
