Area Middle and High School Math and Science Teachers Receive Texas Instruments Training in Poteau

Twelve area middle school math and science teachers recently participated in a two-day beginner TI (Texas Instruments) workshop while 20 teachers participated in a one-day intermediate and advanced training at Kiamichi Technology Center in Poteau. The workshops were designed to help teachers integrate the TI-Nspire Navigator Systems effectively into classroom instruction, which helps students explore, understand and connect the principles of science, math, coding engineering design, and electronics. GEAR UP Students Travel to Texas for Extraordinary Tours

Ninety-two ninth grade students and nine sponsors boarded two buses (one leaving from Poteau and one from McAlester) to travel to Texas for an exciting adventure provided by EOSC (Eastern Oklahoma State College) GEAR UP. The trip is known as Tour of Texas, which allows partner schools’ students to travel south to tour various colleges and universities as well as the Texas Instruments North Campus Facility in Dallas. Students traveling on the Poteau bus stopped at SOSU (Southeastern Oklahoma State University) in Durant. SOSU offers a wide array of unique programs from aviation to occupational safety. Forty-five area middle and high school math and science teachers recently participated in a three-day TI (Texas Instruments) training at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton. The workshop was designed to help teachers integrate the TI-Nspire Navigator Systems effectively into classroom instruction, which helps students explore, understand and connect the principles of science, math, coding engineering design, and electronics.
