Poteau ninth grade Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP students recently toured UAFS (University of Arkansas Fort Smith in Fort Smith). Students were greeted by Admissions Officer Morgan Kratts and began their tour at the campus amphitheater, which was completed in 2015. Area Math and Science Teachers Attend Texas Instruments Training in Poteau

Twelve area middle school math and science teachers recently participated in a two-day beginner TI (Texas Instruments) workshop while six teachers participated in a one-day intermediate and advanced training at Pansy Kidd Middle School in Poteau. The workshops were sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP and was designed to help teachers integrate technology effectively into instruction. The trainings were conducted by Texas Instruments Specialists Mike Smith, Fred Ferneyhough, Sandra Hocutt, and Cassie Whitecotton.

Poteau seventh grade girls tour the Oklahoma Aquarium

Sixty-nine Poteau GEAR UP seventh grade students recently traveled to Jenks to visit the Oklahoma Aquarium. The aquarium allowed students to self-explore the nine exhibits it houses, including the most recent exhibit, the Polynesian Reef. There are several touch tanks that allow students a hands-on experience with aquatic creatures. The Polynesian Reef exhibit is home to many species of fish and coral. Forty-four seventh grade Poteau GEAR UP students recently travel to the Oklahoma Aquarium. The aquarium is home to many species of fish, sharks, and other sea life as well as wildlife native to Oklahoma. Students explored exhibits as well as touched aquatic animals up close and personal. Fifty-three Poteau eighth grade girls recently traveled to Tulsa to explore the Tulsa Air and Space Museum & Planetarium. The museum houses many different aircraft and replicas related to different eras of flight, including the aviation history in Oklahoma. Fifty-five Poteau eighth grade students recently toured The Tulsa Air and Space Museum & Planetarium.
