Area Math and Science Teachers Attend Texas Instruments Training in McAlester

Fifteen area middle school math and science teachers recently participated in a two-day beginner TI (Texas Instruments) workshop while 13 teachers participated in a one-day intermediate and advanced training at Eastern Oklahoma State College in McAlester. The workshops were sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP and was designed to help teachers integrate technology effectively into instruction. EOSC GEAR UP’s Brianna Brassfield holds Harry Wong workshop at Indianola Public School

GEAR UP Education Coordinator Brianna Brassfield provided Harry Wong’s “The Effective Teacher” professional development to Indianola teachers recently. The workshop included The Effective Teacher, The First Days of School, and Discipline and Procedures. The presentation included what effective teachers do to cause student achievement. The workshop was provided free to the partner school faculty and administration. In 2017, Eastern received a $17 million GEAR UP grant and is serving over 3,000 students and teachers in 39 area partner schools.

The Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP Professional Development team brought Motivational Classroom Management to Indianola Schools recently. Teachers were eager to learn something new and add some excitement to their classrooms. “A lot goes into motivating students,” said GEAR UP Professional Development Coordinator John Spiegel. “We love seeing educators extend and grow their pedagogical outlooks.” Teachers explored different strategies to motivate students, discovered how learning styles affect classroom management, and learned modern motivational tools.
