Eufaula GEAR UP students visited the Cherokee Heritage Center

Thirty-nine Eufaula ninth grade GEAR UP students visited the Cherokee Heritage Center in Park Hill, OK. Students toured Diligwa, a 1710 Cherokee Village. Students explored the primary council house learning that Cherokee families are matrilineal, which allows women to choose their husbands, hunt, fish, gather, and go to war. Harmony GEAR UP students recently traveled to Tuttle, OK, to tour the Braum’s Ice Cream Factory and Dairy Farm. Twenty Lane GEAR UP students recently toured the Atoka Museum and Civil War Cemetery. Seventy McAlester ninth grade GEAR UP students recently explored SOSU (Southeastern Oklahoma State University) in Durant. Students were welcomed in the Glen D. Johnson Student Union by campus recruiters. Students were divided into three separate groups and given a tour of campus.
