Quinton GEAR UP students tour Connors State College

Quinton eighth and ninth grade GEAR UP students recently toured CSC (Connors State College) in Warner, Oklahoma. The tour began in the auditorium with CSC Assistant Director of Recruitment Chandler Young giving a brief introduction about the campus. She provided students with handouts of CSC degree options and other valuable information. During the tour, Young discussed the various science and math classes held in the Education Building. Students visited the Classroom Building where business, history, and math classes are held. Students asked Young questions as the tour ventured across campus to the Melvin Self Fieldhouse where the gym and workout facilities are housed. Students enjoyed looking at all the past and present CSC sport photos that lined the halls. Young then led students to the Equine Barn where they had a look at the stables. Students visited the Student Union, and Young discussed dining options and activities that are held by campus clubs through the year. The last stop of the tour was the Ogden Family Museum, which features historical displays of Connors State College’s rich history. Students enjoyed the campus tour, and gave Young a huge thank you upon their departure. Chaperones and students ate lunch at El Jarocho Mexican Restaurant in Warner before returning to school.

The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017, and will serve more than 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
