Area Middle and High School Math and Science Teachers Receive Texas Instruments Technology and Training

Forty-five area middle and high school math and science teachers recently participated in a three-day TI (Texas Instruments) training at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton. The workshop was designed to help teachers integrate the TI-Nspire Navigator Systems effectively into classroom instruction, which helps students explore, understand and connect the principles of science, math, coding engineering design, and electronics. Fifteen area middle school math and science teachers recently participated in a two-day beginner TI (Texas Instruments) workshop while 13 teachers participated in a one-day intermediate and advanced training at Eastern Oklahoma State College in McAlester. The workshops were sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP and was designed to help teachers integrate technology effectively into instruction. The trainings were conducted by Texas Instruments Specialists Mike Smith, Fred Ferneyhough, Sandra Hocutt, and Cassie Whitecotton.

Clayton eighth-grade GEAR UP students visit Fort Smith National Historic Site

Eighth-grade GEAR UP students from Clayton recently visited the Fort Smith National Historic Site in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Students viewed a short film of the history of the area and the fort. Thirty-seven GEAR UP students from Lane recently traveled to Durant to visit the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation’s fish hatchery. The seventh and eighth grade students toured the facility which is the largest of the four state fish hatcheries which produces millions of fish each year for stocking Oklahoma waters.
