Twenty-nine area middle and high school math and science teachers recently participated in a two-day beginner level Texas Instruments workshop while 14 teachers participated in a one-day intermediate and advanced level training at Kiamichi Technology Center in Poteau. Porum eighth grade GEAR UP students tour OSUIT

Twenty-nine Porum eighth grade Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP students recently toured OSUIT (Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology) in Okmulgee. Students began the day with a fun-filled meeting with members of the on-campus student recruitment team known as Friends of Pete. Students viewed a presentation about various programs available while attending OSUIT, participated in a question and answer session, and then received a walking tour of the campus where they viewed the LASSO Center, library, dormitory, wellness center, sauna, student union, bookstore, and other aspects of college life. Forty-five area middle and high school math and science teachers recently participated in a three-day TI (Texas Instruments) training at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton. EOSC GEAR UP’s Brianna Brassfield holds Harry Wong workshop at Indianola Public School

GEAR UP Education Coordinator Brianna Brassfield provided Harry Wong’s “The Effective Teacher” professional development to Indianola teachers recently. The workshop included The Effective Teacher, The First Days of School, and Discipline and Procedures. The presentation included what effective teachers do to cause student achievement. The workshop was provided free to the partner school faculty and administration. In 2017, Eastern received a $17 million GEAR UP grant and is serving over 3,000 students and teachers in 39 area partner schools.
