Porum eighth grade GEAR UP students tour OSUIT

Twenty-nine Porum eighth grade Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP students recently toured OSUIT (Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology) in Okmulgee. Students began the day with a fun-filled meeting with members of the on-campus student recruitment team known as Friends of Pete. Students viewed a presentation about various programs available while attending OSUIT, participated in a question and answer session, and then received a walking tour of the campus where they viewed the LASSO Center, library, dormitory, wellness center, sauna, student union, bookstore, and other aspects of college life. Students gained useful information to prepare them for admissions, graduation, and employment. Following the tour, students ate lunch in the Cowboy Café, one of the dining options at OSUIT, which is housed in the Student Union.

The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017, and will serve more than 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
