Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP Partner Schools Receive Technology During COVID-19 Pandemic

Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP recently purchased a variety of technology items for area GEAR UP schools to assist with the schools’ needs for virtual learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Each GEAR UP school indicated its immediate need to help conduct virtual education for students. GEAR UP spent over $194,650 on laptops, headsets, and Chromebooks. The technology was distributed to cohort schools based on the requested need. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017, and will serve more than 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.

Crowder GEAR UP Students Virtually Tour Eastern Oklahoma State College

Thirty-three Crowder freshmen and sophomore GEAR UP students recently participated in a virtual college tour of EOSC (Eastern Oklahoma State College). Recruiter Karen Darby conducted an in-person presentation along with a virtual tour of the EOSC campus. Darby began by discussing some of the benefits of attending a two-year college, such as cost-saving opportunities and being close to home. Crowder GEAR UP students tour Connors State College

Thirty-four Crowder eighth and ninth grade Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP students recently toured Connors State College in Warner, Oklahoma. Students began the day in the Fine Arts Auditorium where they received information about Connors State College, current staff, available majors, work-study programs, sports, and financial aid. Students participated in a campus tour where they viewed the Equine Barn, Classroom Building, Student Union, and Melvin Self Fieldhouse. Throughout the tour, students received information regarding financial planning for college, including completion of Oklahoma’s Promise in eighth, ninth, or 10th grades. Crowder seventh and eighth graders tour Oral Roberts University in Tulsa

Forty-six seventh and eighth grade Crowder GEAR UP students recently toured ORU (Oral Roberts University) in Tulsa. Student Ambassadors Rosa Beitia (a Medical Molecular Biology senior from San Antonio, TX) and Marc Swanner (a Ministry and Leadership/Business Management freshman from Greenville, NC) welcomed Crowder students to the Global Learning Center before starting the tour. Crowder GEAR UP seventh and eighth graders tour The Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art

Forty-nine Crowder GEAR UP students recently traveled to Tulsa to tour The Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art. Dennis Chambers and Pam Johnson greeted students; both have been docents at the museum for many years and were extremely knowledgeable of the Jewish culture and history. Students experienced the full tour of the Holocaust and Judea sections. The museum is ever growing with renovations in progress both inside and out. Fifty-one Crowder GEAR UP students recently traveled to Stillwater to tour Oklahoma State University. Students began the day with lunch inside the Student Union. The lines were long as numerous college students were released from morning classes. Crowder students were in awe of all the dining options.
