Harmony GEAR UP students tour the Braum’s Ice Cream Factory and Dairy Farm

Harmony GEAR UP students recently traveled to Tuttle, OK, to tour the Braum’s Ice Cream Factory and Dairy Farm.  Students were greeted by tour guide Anita Stephens who gave them a brief overview of the facility.  They were treated to freshly baked Braum’s cookies and ice cream bars while viewing a video of the history of Braum’s and the factory’s operating process.  After the presentation, students toured the ice cream factory where they watched the production and packaging of dairy products and learned about pasteurization and homogenization, which allows the milk to go from cow to shelf in 24 to

Harmony eighth grade GEAR UP students tour Southeastern Oklahoma State University

Seventeen eighth grade Harmony GEAR UP students recently toured SOSU (Southeastern Oklahoma State University) in Durant. The students were met in the Glen D. Johnson Student Union by Admissions Counselor and Recruiter Steven Harris. After a brief overview of college life, organizations, and student services, Harris led the students on a walking tour of the campus. Students visited an apartment-style residence hall, and learned about dormitory living and other housing options. Students also visited several instructional facilities, including the Fine Arts building, which houses the Communications Department that is home to the campus radio station, newspaper and magazine. Harmony GEAR UP students tour the Atoka Museum and Civil War Cemetery

Fifteen GEAR UP students from Harmony school recently toured the Atoka Museum and Civil War Cemetery. Established in 1979, the Museum covers the history of the Civil War in Oklahoma as well as the history of Atoka County. The seventh and eighth-grade students were greeted by Museum Director Cindy Wallis who began the day by asking them to sign a birthday card for a former Atoka resident who is celebrating his 100th birthday. Harmony GEAR UP students visit Durant State Fish Hatchery

Thirty GEAR UP students from Harmony Public Schools recently toured the Durant State Fish Hatchery located on the Blue River in Durant. The 6th and 7th graders spent the day exploring the hatchery and learning about its role in the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife. Students enjoyed a tour led by Rebecca Fillmore, a technician for the fish hatchery where they observed feeding of the fish in one of the many reservoirs and learned about the process of producing millions of fish each year for stocking Oklahoma waters to enhance angling and sport fishing.
