Wister GEAR UP students tour Oklahoma State University

Wister 11th and 12th-grade GEAR UP students recently toured Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK.  Students were greeted by Campus Visits and Event Coordinator Mariah Russell upon arrival at the Student Union.  The tour began in the Case Studies event room with a welcome video that detailed the campus environment, degrees, scholarships, and internships available to students.

After a short Q&A, Senior Ambassador Caitlin Brooks led students on a walking tour of several buildings, including the Student Union, Engineering South, General Academics, Paul Miller Journalism and Broadcasting, ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center, and Village Suites. The last stop on the tour was the Spears School of Business, which is in the top five percent of the world’s schools offering business degrees. Before departing the tour, Brooks discussed with students that the rigorous academic preparation and hands-on research opportunities were the top reasons she made a choice to attend Oklahoma State University, and if the students made a choice to attend too, they would not be disappointed with their decision.

The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve more than 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
