Panama GEAR UP students recently toured the OSUIT (Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology) campus in Okmulgee, Okla. OSUIT staff greeted the students as they stepped off the bus. Students were given a flyer with all the programs offered and a campus map. Then split into groups by program interests. Students asked questions, and the groups took a walking tour of the campus, stopping by their chosen programs. During their tours, they learned more about specific programs, the campus layout, the history, and some fun facts about OUSIT. The tour gave students a better idea of what it might be like to be a college student.
The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve over 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
