Clayton GEAR UP students tour Carl Albert State College

Clayton 10th grade GEAR UP students recently toured CASC (Carl Albert State College) in Poteau, Oklahoma. Students were greeted and led on a campus tour by Recruiter Hunter Sisemore. Students began their tour in Hemphill Hall, where Sizemore spoke about offices housed in the building such as Financial Aid, Admissions, and the Business Office. He spoke about the Scholars program and the benefits of applying for the program. He also discussed the importance of applying for scholarships and taking the ACT. Students continued their campus tour with stops at the Joe E. White Library, Johnson Hall, and the new Ross and Artie Stivers Center. The Artie Stivers Center houses the athletic facilities, including various workout rooms and equipment. The tour concluded in the Costner-Balentine Student Center, where students could visit the bookstore and had a question and answer session with Sizemore. The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve over 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
