Twenty-two Haileyville tenth and eleven-grade GEAR UP students recently toured OSU-IT in Okmulgee, OK. The tour began in the Grady Clack center, where the Student Success Facilitator, Abigail Rush, greeted students. Rush showed the students a PowerPoint presentation covering admissions, tuition, dorm life and discussed programs offered on campus. Next, students went on a walking tour of the campus. Students toured the Learning Resource Center, a dorm room, gym, the Culinary Arts Program, and the Natural Gas Compression Technology program. After the walking tour, they ate lunch on campus in the Cowboy Café with other college students. Overall, the students learned about different trades/careers and college life on campus.
The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017, and will serve over 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
