Eighteen Indianola ninth grade GEAR UP students recently toured Connors State College in Warner, Okla. Director of Recruitment Logan Nero welcomed the students to campus at the Fine Arts Building. She gave each student a CSC informational booklet, and then showed a PowerPoint presentation about the college. Nero informed the students about admissions requirements, the 25 degree options, tuition costs, financial aid availability, and on-campus student life opportunities. Due to COVID-19, there are many safety procedures to follow to visit the CSC campus, including wearing a mask. Nero gave each student a CSC-branded face mask. Madison, a work-study student, gave the students a walking tour of campus. Students saw the library, campus bookstore, Melvin City Field House, and Classroom Building, which is the oldest facility on campus. Following the tour, students enjoyed lunch in the A.D. Stone Student Union.
The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017, and will serve more than 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
