Fourteen students travel to Texas for an exciting adventure provided by EOSC (Eastern Oklahoma State College) GEAR UP. The trip is known as Tour of Texas, which allows students to travel south to tour various colleges and universities as well as local businesses to learn about career opportunities.
Students stopped at Texas A&M University, which offers 144 total areas of study at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. They offer STEM undergraduate degrees in Applied Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Engineering, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Physics, Pre-Med, Technology Management, and Wildlife Conservation Science. In addition, the university offers numerous other majors in humanities, education, agriculture, and much more.
The next day students toured UT Austin and visited SeaWorld where they got to experience the many different career opportunities that SeaWorld offers. Students learned about what it takes to work at SeaWorld and the educational experience that is needed.
Next students visited the Alamo. After the Alamo, they visited Natural Bridge Caverns where they heard about the history of how the caverns were discovered. Finally, students got a walking tour of Texas Tech University. Students received information about the programs and transfer criteria for that campus.
The trip was sponsored by EOSC (Eastern Oklahoma State College) GEAR UP. EOSC received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017, and will serve more than 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
