EOSC GEAR UP held an early orientation camp to assist incoming GEAR UP freshmen adjust to campus life.
The camp began with a family night, where EOSC staff from various departments gathered to warmly welcome students and their families and answer their questions. Throughout the camp, students also had the opportunity to visit EOSC President Dr. Wansick’s office, where she personally welcomed them to campus.
The students obtained their student IDs, parking permits, and class schedules. Students took a campus tour, ensuring they were well-prepared for the start of class. Seminars were designed to introduce them to the academic and support services available on campus, which were provided daily. Students also attended a workshop by Paradigm Shift Leadership that focused on helping students step out of their comfort zones and learn skills designed to help them succeed during college.
The camp was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College’s GEAR UP program. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve more than 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
