Wilburton senior GEAR UP students recently visited the Science Museum Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. Students engaged in hands-on learning experiences as they interacted with numerous science exhibits. Students learned about electricity, motion, gravity, geology, and space. The exhibits students visited included the Navy Gallery, Mirror Maze, Eye on the Sky, EneryQuest, Elemental Worlds, and Destination Space.
After exploring the museum, students could view a showing in the planetarium or watch a Science Live experiment. The museum, as well as the name, has evolved since its creation in 1958. The mission of Science Museum Oklahoma, formerly known as the Omniplex Science Museum, is to enrich people’s lives by revealing the wonder of the relevance of science.
The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve over 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
