Twenty-three McCurtain junior and senior GEAR UP students traveled to Tulsa, OK., to visit and tour The Outsiders House Museum. During their visit, they learned how the book, movie, and museum became so famous. Students heard some secrets about how they filmed in such a small house and how they put together the rumble scene. They viewed some photos and movie artifacts that can only be seen at the museum. Some of the artifacts included outfits and signs, as well as the director’s chair. The students then visited the gift shop, where they had a large selection of souvenirs from the movie and book. After the museum tour, the students enjoyed lunch at Incredible Pizza before returning to school.
The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve over 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
