Quinton junior and sophomore GEAR UP students recently toured Carl Albert State College (CASC) in Poteau, Oklahoma. Students were greeted by Hunter Sisemore, the Lead Recruiter at CASC.
The tour began in Hemphill Hall where the students visited the offices of Admissions, Financial Aid and Learning Resource Center. Students continued their tour by visiting several buildings on campus which included Gedosh Scholar Dorm, Health Science Center, Dr. Joe E. White Library, Ross and Artie Stivers Center and Costner-Balentine Student Center which includes the bookstore and cafeteria.
Sisemore discussed with students the numerous programs available on campus and the 8 programs and 3 certificate programs offered online. Sisemore explained to students that Poteau is the main campus, but CASC also has a branch campus located in Sallisaw, Oklahoma.
The tour ended at the Costner-Balentine Student Center where students visited the bookstore and gift shop. Students experienced college life as a student as they ate lunch at Café 1507, CASC’s campus cafeteria before departing campus.
The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve over 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
