Wilburton GEAR UP juniors recently participated in Junior Day at ECU (East Central University) in Ada, Oklahoma. Junior Day is for upcoming seniors to learn about the opportunities available to them at ECU. The day began with ECU providing students with an overview of the campus before opening questions up to a panel of current ECU students. The students then attended different sessions to learn about majors of interest offered on campus and learn about scholarship opportunities and student life. A special session was held for students who wanted to learn about the Pride of Tigerland Marching Band which is one of the largest student organizations on campus. ECU offers more than 70-degree programs including popular programs such as psychology and education. Students ended the day with lunch provided by ECU before traveling back to school.
The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve more than 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
