Cameron GEAR UP students recently toured OSUIT (Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology) in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Students were greeted by OSUIT Tour Guides at the Grady Clack Center. The day began with a presentation over OSUIT admission requirements, degree programs offered, and a overview of campus life. Students were then lead on a walking tour of the campus. The first stop was a tour of Truck Technician program. They were shown the training area and given information on admissions into the program, as well as what they could expect after graduation. Students received information on how partnering with a dealership can help pay for their education. Last on the tour was the Culinary Arts department where they were shown the Aquaponics Lab. After the walking tour, they ate lunch on campus in the Cowboy Café with other college students. Overall, the students learned about different trades/careers and college life on campus.
The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve over 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
