Clayton 11th grade GEAR UP students recently toured CASC (Carl Albert State College) in Poteau, Oklahoma. Students were greeted and led on a walking tour of the campus by Halle Ryan, Viking Ambassador. The tour began in Hemphill Hall, where Ryan spoke about financial aid, admissions requirements, and the Business Office. She spoke about the Scholars program and the benefits of applying for the program. Students continued their campus tour with stops at the Joe E. White Library, Johnson Hall, and Physical Therapy, followed by the new Ross and Artie Stivers Center. The Ross and Artie Stivers Center is home to the athletic facility, including various workout rooms and equipment. The tour concluded in the Costner-Balentine Student Center, where students could visit the bookstore and had a question and answer session with Ryan.
The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve over 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
