Poteau Eastern Oklahoma State College Gear Up students recently toured NSU (Northeastern State University) in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The students were greeted at the University Center where they were welcomed by NSU’s student tour guides. The trip began with a slideshow covering college preparation and different organizations, clubs, and degrees offered by NSU. Next, they discussed NSU’s application process and requirements for freshmen and transfer students. They covered scholarship opportunities that are available to incoming freshmen. Students were then led on a tour across campus, which included campus facilities such as the John Vaughan Library and Seminary Hall. In Seminary Hall the students were given information about the rich history of the building. After the tour, the students enjoyed lunch on campus, where they got to experience what it is like to eat on campus.
The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve over 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
