Panama eleventh-grade GEAR UP students recently toured the OSUIT (Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology) campus in Okmulgee, Okla. GEAR UP students were greeted as they stepped off the bus by OSUIT recruitment staff. They were given information about OSUIT and programs offered on campus. On a walking tour of the campus, students visited the culinary Arts and Nursing programs in the School of Arts, Sciences, and Health. They enjoyed making pizza while getting information about the Culinary Arts program. They also toured the High Voltage Line Technician, Electrical/Electronics, Natural Gas Compression, and Engineering Construction programs. The next stop on the tour was the Graphic Design program. Students concluded the tour with lunch in the Cowboy Café located in the OSUIT Student Union.
The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve over 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
