Fifty-six GEAR UP students from Hartshorne High School recently toured OSUIT (Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology) in Okmulgee, Okla. Students began the tour by meeting the on-campus student recruitment team. Students learned about the history of OSUIT, the academic programs offered, campus life, and the importance of finding a career they love. After the presentation, they were led on a campus tour, where they visited the School of Transportation and Heavy Equipment and the School of Engineering and Construction Technologies. They also experienced a typical dorm and laundry room to get a feel of “college life.” Students concluded their campus tour with lunch in the Cowboy Café located in the OSUIT Student Union.
The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College’s GEAR UP program. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve more than 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
