Twenty-seven Indianola tenth and eleven-grade GEAR UP students recently toured OSU-IT in Okmulgee, Okla. The tour began in the Grady Clack center, where the Assistant Director of Prospective Students, Levi Wright, greeted the students. Wright showed a presentation covering OSU-IT admission requirements, tuition costs, dorm life, and programs offered on campus. Students took a walking tour of the campus where they visited the Learning Resource Center, viewed a dorm room, Culinary Arts Program, and the Natural Gas Compression Technology program. The students enjoyed walking through the Culinary Arts building, where they witnessed college students making homemade bagels. Next, they visited the garden where they grow the vegetables that they use in their dishes. After the tour, the students had lunch on campus in the Cowboy Café.
The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017, and will serve over 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
