Moyers ninth and tenth grade GEAR UP students recently toured CASC (Carl Albert State College) in Poteau, Oklahoma. Students were greeted by CASC Recruiter Hunter Sisemore, Viking Ambassadors Hayleigh Drake, and Logan Nipper. Students began their tour in Hemphill Hall, where the students visited the Financial Aid office where Drake talked to the students about the Scholars program and how it can help pay for their education at CASC. She also explained the importance of applying for scholarships and meeting financial aid deadlines when in college. Students continued their tour of the campus by visiting several other buildings across campus that including the Joe E. White Library, Johnson Hall, and a CASC dorm room. The tour ended back at Hemphill Hall, where students participated in a question and answer session about their visit led by Sisemore.
The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve over 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
