Haileyville GEAR UP students toured Connors State College

Twenty-three Haileyville eighth and ninth grade GEAR UP students recently toured Connors State College in Warner, Oklahoma. The tour began in the Fine Arts Building, where the students met with the Director of Recruitment, Logan Nero. She provided the students with a handout about the college and the programs they have to offer. Nero informed the students about admissions, twenty-five different degree options, tuition fees, concurrent enrollment, and student life on campus. Nero then gave the students a walking tour of the college. They visited the library, seen housing options, the gym, and the classroom building, which is the oldest building on campus, built-in 1908. After the tour, the students enjoyed lunch in the A.D. Stone Student Union, where they dined with other Connors State College students and had a first-hand look at campus life.

The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017, and will serve over 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
