Spiro GEAR UP Freshmen tour the University of Central Oklahoma & the Oklahoma Science Museum

Spiro freshmen recently visited the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond and the Oklahoma Science Museum. UCO Tours Representative Gina Hickey met the students and provided each with packets. Hickey talked to the group about the history of UCO, majors programs, grades, tests, the admissions process and campus life. Students then participated in a scavenger hunt.

Students toured a dorm room, the Bronhco Sports Complex, the Bronhco Lake, the Education Building, Hamilton Field House, the Nigh University Center, and the Wellness Center. They also watched the drum line perform.

Next students traveled to the Oklahoma Science Museum where they explored the natures of science. Students walked throughout the museum discovering the wonders of science. Students enjoyed the Segways, magnetic sand and the sound center. Students then watched “The Adventures of Pandas” in the Dome Theatre.
“It’s was a great day,” said GEAR UP Education Coordinator Dara Self. “UCO staff provide a wonderful campus tour. It’s an amazing opportunity for high school students to visit a college campus and see what it would be like to be a student on that campus. And students had a lot of fun at the Oklahoma Science Museum.”
The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Participating schools take two field trips each academic year—one to tour a college or university and one that is cultural/educational in nature.
