Whitesboro GEAR UP students tour Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology

Whitesboro GEAR UP students recently toured Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee. OSUIT Tour Guide Sable Vasquez began the tour in the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Students completed Tour Tracker information sheets, and Vasquez provided an overview of what students should expect during the tour.

Students spoke in depth with faculty from three academic programs: School of Energy Technologies, School of Culinary Arts and the School of Visual Communications. The School of Energy Technologies includes Natural Gas Compression, Pipeline Integrity, and Power Plant Technology. Students in this program can participate in an eight–week internship.

The School of Culinary Arts includes basic culinary skills to advanced skills. Students in this program can participate in internships all over the world.

The School of Visual Communications includes Graphic Design Technology, 3D Modeling & Animation and Photography.

After touring the departments, students were led to the motel–style dormitory in England Hall. OSUIT provides other options for student housing which include traditional student dorms and family and non-traditional student dorms such as suites and apartments.

The tour ended in the Student Union. The student health clinic, post office, campus bookstore, copy center, OSUIT Veterans Lounge and cafeteria are located in the Student Union.

“College tours are an important part of Eastern’s GEAR UP program,” said GEAR UP Education Coordinator Tara Stevens. “They give the students a first–hand look at life on a college campus.”

The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Participating schools take two field trips each academic year—one to tour a college or university and one that is cultural or educational in nature.
