Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP’s
Stacy Burmeier Becomes True Colors Certified Facilitator

Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP Assistant Professional Development Coordinator Stacy Burmeier recently completed a two and one–half day certification training in Denver, Colorado, to become a True Colors Personal Success Certified Facilitator.
The True Colors Personal Success Seminar helped participants explore their own and other’s distinctive personality strengths and stressors. They learned to respect and appreciate differences in the ways people function and better understand relationship building, effective communication and team effort. Burmeier acquired skills to facilitate a foundational 3–hour Personal Success Seminar. She learned the 7 Essential Elements to presenting the True Colors that combine education with entertainment for maximum participation and lasting impact.
“It was a wonderful training,” said Burmeier. “I am anxious to implement the training I received to provide professional development to cohort teachers and students.”
The training was led by David Eng, a True Colors Master Trainer.
The Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a federal initiative to increase the number of low–income students who enter and successfully transition into postsecondary education. Eastern will receive $12,625,000 over seven years to serve current ninth and tenth grade students throughout high school graduation and college admission. The grant also provides professional development in support of teachers and administrators. The GEAR UP grant is currently serving 27 schools in southeastern Oklahoma.
