Moyers GEAR UP Students
Tour Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology

Moyers GEAR UP students recently toured Oklahoma State University—Institute of Technology in Okmulgee. The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP.

Students convened in the Grady Clark Center and completed contact cards. OSU–IT Student Services Special Event Coordinator Sable Wise talked to the students about OSU–IT and the majors that are offered there.

After the presentation, students were given a tour of the campus that included the Diesel and Heavy Equipment, Engineering Technologies, and Visual Communications (Graphic Design, 3D Modeling & Animation, and Photography) areas. The students also toured one of the residence halls.

“It was a great tour,” said GEAR UP Education Coordinator LaDonna Baldwin. “Students enjoy going on college tours. It gives them the opportunity to see what degrees are available and what college life would be like.”

In 2011, Eastern received a seven–year, $12.6 million federal GEAR UP grant and is in its third year of implementation. Participating schools take two field trips each academic year—one to tour a college or university and one that is cultural/educational in nature.
