GEAR UP Local Education Agency Representatives Attend 2022 Partnership Meeting

Eastern Oklahoma State College’s GEAR UP program hosted its annual partnership meeting for area school superintendents, principals, counselors, and lead teachers. More than 46 school representatives met to learn about the current services EOSC GEAR UP is providing to area schools. Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a federal initiative to increase the number of low-income students who enter and successfully transition into postsecondary education. Indianola GEAR UP students toured The University of Tulsa

Thirty Indianola GEAR UP students recently toured The University of Tulsa (TU) in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Founded in 1894, TU is a private, doctoral degree-granting, accredited institution. Students were greeted by a TU admissions counselor and University Ambassadors. Students were given a presentation by the TU Admissions Counselor which provided an overview of admission requirements, degree programs, scholarship opportunities, and campus life. Buffalo Valley GEAR UP Students Tour SOSU

 Buffalo Valley 11th and 12th-grade GEAR UP students recently toured Southeastern Oklahoma State University (SOSU), “The Campus of a Thousand Magnolias.” Students were welcomed by University Admissions Counselor/Recruiters Baily Hendrickson and Shantell Boone. Students began their tour at the Glen D. Johnson Student Union. The tour began with Hendrickson and Boone speaking about the different majors offered at SOSU and the application and admission process. Wilburton 12th grade GEAR UP Students Tour Southeastern Oklahoma State University

Thirty-five seniors from Wilburton High School recently traveled to Durant, OK, to tour the campus of Southeastern Oklahoma State University (SOSU), the home of the Savage Storm. Bailey Hendrickson and Kristen Wolf, Recruiters, greeted Wilburton students at the Glen D. Johnson Student Union.  Hendrickson started the tour by asking the students about their future career interests. The students were divided into groups and began the walking tour of the campus. Wilburton 11th grade GEAR UP students tour Connors State College

Wilburton junior GEAR UP students recently toured Connors State College (CSC) in Warner, Oklahoma. CSC Director of Recruitment and Enrollment Jessica Langston greeted students in the Library Learning Center. Langston provided the students with an introduction and overview of the college, financial aid, scholarships, and the degree programs available on campus before starting the tour. Langston led the students through the halls of the Education and Classroom Building, which host various courses, before heading the Horticulture facilities. GEAR UP Students Travel to Texas

Ninety-six junior and senior students boarded two buses (one leaving from Poteau and one from McAlester) to travel to Texas for an exciting adventure provided by EOSC (Eastern Oklahoma State College) GEAR UP. The trip is known as Tour of Texas, which allows partner schools’ students to travel south to tour various colleges and universities as well as the Texas Instruments North Campus Facility in Dallas. Students traveling on the Poteau bus stopped at Texas A&M University-Commerce (TAMU). The university offers 144 total areas of study at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels. Poteau GEAR UP students tour Oral Roberts University

Poteau GEAR UP students recently toured Oral Roberts University (ORU) in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The tour started by meeting at the Welcome Center where they were greeted by ORU’s tour guides. Students received a presentation on campus life and the benefits of concurrent enrollment before college. Next, students went on a guided tour of ORU’s campus. McAlester GEAR UP students tour Oklahoma Christian University

Sixty-two juniors and thirty-eight seniors from McAlester High School traveled to Oklahoma City to tour Oklahoma Christian University. When students arrived, they were greeted by Megann Olsson, the Admissions Coordinator along with student tour guides. Olsson had students gather in the chapel for a presentation covering campus admissions and campus life. Forty-nine GEAR UP seniors from Savanna High School recently traveled to Okmulgee, OK, to tour the campus of Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology (OSUIT). Kimberly Huntsberger, Campus Tour Coordinator, and Abigail Rush, Student Success Facilitator, greeted the students and gave a brief overview of college life and the unique programs offered at OSUIT.
