Haileyville GEAR UP students tour the Tulsa Historical Society Museum

Twenty GEAR UP juniors and seniors from Haileyville High School recently travelled to Tulsa, OK, to tour the Tulsa Historical Society Museum.  The tour began with Neal Pascoe, Director of Education, welcoming the students and giving an overview of the museum and offering maps, a selfie scavenger hunt and general instructions.  After the welcome, the students enjoyed a self-guided tour of the facility.  Students viewed the following exhibits:  ChronoTulsa: A timeline of Tulsa History, A Century Later: Greenwood & the Tulsa Race Massacre, Tulsa 66: America’s Main Street in the Oil Capital, Hall of Fame: film showing a rotating selection of Tulsa history items, and the Vintage Gardens & 5 Moons: artifacts throughout the garden. Students heard about Oklahoma history.

The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College’s GEAR UP program.  Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve more than 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
