Wilburton 12th grade GEAR UP Students Tour Southeastern Oklahoma State University

Thirty-five seniors from Wilburton High School recently traveled to Durant, OK, to tour the campus of Southeastern Oklahoma State University (SOSU), the home of the Savage Storm. Bailey Hendrickson and Kristen Wolf, Recruiters, greeted Wilburton students at the Glen D. Johnson Student Union.

Hendrickson started the tour by asking the students about their future career interests. The students were divided into groups and began the walking tour of the campus. Students visited several instructional buildings, Administration offices, and an apartment-style residence hall. Hendrickson and Wolfe discussed the top majors SOSU offers, including Safety and Aviation.

Students were encouraged to find a college that was a good fit for them and to get involved on campus. Hendrickson and Wolfe discussed various opportunities on campus, including financial aid and scholarships, internships, clubs, organizations, and student life on campus. After the campus tour, students returned to the Student Union, where they enjoyed lunch in the cafeteria.

The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve more than 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
