McAlester GEAR UP students tour Oklahoma Christian University

Sixty-two juniors and thirty-eight seniors from McAlester High School traveled to Oklahoma City to tour Oklahoma Christian University. When students arrived, they were greeted by Megann Olsson, the Admissions Coordinator along with student tour guides. Olsson had students gather in the chapel for a presentation covering campus admissions and campus life.

After the presentation, Olsson split the students into groups led by student tour guides to tour the campus.  Each group toured buildings across campus such as the gym, pool, dorms, and cafeteria. When the tour was over students met back up in the Student Union where they visited booths set up about the different majors the university has to offer. The tour ended with lunch on campus in the cafeteria.

The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve more than 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
