Cameron GEAR UP Students Explore Carl Albert State College

Fifteen Cameron ninth and 10th-grade GEAR UP students recently participated in a virtual college day with CASC (Carl Albert State College) Recruiter Hunter Sizemore. CASC is a public two-year community college serving over 3,000 students. CASC has over 30-degree programs and nine certification programs available for students. The virtual tour started in Hemphill Hall, where Sizemore showed students where admissions, enrollment, student affairs, and financial aid office are in the building. Next, students toured the Costner-Balentine Student Center. The Student Center houses the Café 1507 as well as the campus bookstore. Aside from books, the bookstore provides numerous class supplies and a variety of CASC apparel. Finally, students were given a tour of the newest building on campus, the Ross and Artie Stivers Center. This is a fitness and recreation center that’s available to students, faculty, and staff. Sizemore discussed CASC having eight dormitories available to students and having over 30 student-run organizations so that students may immerse themselves in campus life. The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017, and will serve more than 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
