Hartshorne Ninth and 10th Grade EOSC GEAR UP Students Virtually Tour Northeastern State University

Twenty-six Hartshorne ninth and 10th grade Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP students recently participated in a virtual tour of Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla. NSU University Representative Sara Ryals connected with the students via Zoom, a virtual meeting platform, and offered an overview of information, such as the college admissions process, the importance of ACT scores, financial aid and scholarship opportunities, and campus clubs and organizations.  She also discussed some fun facts and superstitions about NSU, hoping to spark an interest in the students. She played a video of a walking tour of the campus, giving students the next best thing to physically being on campus. Ryals offered students an opportunity to ask questions regarding NSU and college. She also provided students her professional contact information should students have additional questions in the future.

The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017, and will serve more than 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
