Bokoshe GEAR UP students visited the Symphony by the Sea at the Oklahoma Aquarium

Eighteen Bokoshe eighth and ninth grade GEAR UP students recently attended Symphony by the Sea at the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks, Oklahoma. Oklahoma Aquarium partnered with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra to create an experience combining both arts and science. The students were guided by Oklahoma Aquarium Education Specialist, Alyssa Rodriguez, through three galleries in the aquarium to learn about a particular animal or habitat from the aquarium combined with a selected musical ensemble. Bokoshe GEAR UP students and staff enjoyed the sharks and strings performance where they learned how the sharks respond to the string musicians as they performed in front of the shark tank.

“GEAR UP students loved experiencing the aquarium and Tulsa Orchestra in sync with one another,” said GEAR UP Education Coordinator, Bethany Hicks.

The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017 and will serve over 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
