Howe GEAR UP students tour Connors State College

Howe eighth and ninth grade GEAR UP students recently toured CSC (Connors State College) in Warner, Oklahoma. The tour began in the Fine Arts Building. Students met with CSC Assistant Director of Recruitment Chandler Young as she gave a brief overview of what to expect during a student’s college experience. The students gained valuable information about applying for admission, financial aid, ACT scores, scholarships, and programs available on campus. Young led the students through the halls of the Education and Classroom Buildings which host a variety of courses. The students then visited the Melvin Self Fieldhouse that houses the student workout facilities and gymnasium. Students asked questions about athletic scholarships and Young advised them on whom to contact for more information. Next, they visited the Equine Center, where they had an inside look at the stables and learned about Connors’ collegiate rodeo team. The last stop on the tour was the Student Union to eat lunch, CSC dining services are provided by Sodexo, a food services and facilities management company.

The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017, and will serve more than 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
