Indianola eighth and ninth grade GEAR UP students toured Northeastern State University

Thirty-three Indianola eighth and ninth grade GEAR UP students recently toured NSU (Northeastern State University) in Tahlequah. Students were greeted by NSU Campus Visit Program Graduate Assistant Bailey Rush and were presented with an overview of NSU. Rush provided students with information about degree programs, financial aid, and tuition rates. NSU has twenty-four graduate programs, sixty undergraduate programs, and the only optometry program in the State of Oklahoma. NSU has the fourth lowest tuition rate in Oklahoma. After the presentation, students toured the rest of campus including the University Center, Riverhawks Wellness Center, Centennial Plaza, Bagley Hall, and the Gregg Wadley College of Science and Health Professions, and the Underground Food Court that provides a variety of fast food choices for students. Following the tour, students ate lunch on campus in the cafeteria, providing them another aspect of college life.

The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017, and will serve over 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
