Eufaula eighth GEAR UP students tour Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology

Forty-six Eufaula eighth grade GEAR UP students recently toured OSUIT (Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology) in Okmulgee. Students started their day on campus by meeting with Friends of Pete, the on-campus student recruitment team. Students learned about various OSUIT academic programs, campus life, and the importance of finding a career they love. Students walked around campus learning about free medical services, banking and postal services, and the convenience store. Students viewed a dorm room, and imagined life on campus while visiting Covelle Hall, home to a basketball court and wellness center. Students asked questions, and obtained information regarding admissions, financial aid, and planning for college during their tour. Students concluded their campus tour with lunch at Cowboy Café located in the OSUIT Student Union.

The field trip was sponsored by Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP. Eastern received a $17 million federal GEAR UP grant in 2017, and will serve more than 3,000 students in 39 area schools for seven years.
